Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Cuba’s Minister of Transport, shared an analysis today on the social media platform X regarding the current challenges facing the nation’s public transportation system and the strategies being explored to address them.
While acknowledging that the Public Transportation Development Fund provides a structural advantage, Rodríguez Dávila noted that the ongoing shortage of convertible currency has significantly hindered the timely acquisition of essential materials for maintenance and infrastructure investment.
He also cited fuel shortages as a direct cause of the inability to carry out scheduled trips and to effectively restore road conditions.
The minister announced that, following the recent approval of a new financial framework based on foreign currency income from abroad, urgent needs within the sector are beginning to be addressed. He confirmed that procurement processes are already underway to gradually overcome the longstanding constraints.
