During an official visit to Mexico, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Álvarez, held a working meeting on Monday with his Mexican counterpart, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to discuss bilateral matters and the shared agenda in multilateral forums.
Both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting joint initiatives for the benefit of their peoples and to strengthen cooperation in key areas for regional development.
Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente and his team welcomed the Dominican delegation, led by Roberto Álvarez.
“Our countries will continue working together to promote initiatives for the benefit of our peoples,” the SRE stated on its social media accounts.
The meeting was attended by Dominican Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation Hugo F. Rivera, Director of Strategic Studies and Analysis Anselmo Muñiz, and Ambassador Juan Bolívar Díaz.
Visit to the Interoceanic Corridor and Bilateral Meetings
As part of his agenda in Mexico, Minister Álvarez is scheduled to visit the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT), a strategic initiative of the Mexican government that seeks to connect the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, boost development in the country’s southeast, and provide a logistical alternative to the Panama Canal.
The Dominican foreign minister will also hold bilateral meetings with other members of the Mexican cabinet, including Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Alicia Bárcena, to address cooperation on sustainable development and climate change.
Minister Álvarez’s trip will run from August 3 to 6. The visit aims to further deepen ties between the two countries in the political, economic, and social spheres, and to strengthen coordination in multilateral spaces where Mexico and the Dominican Republic share common perspectives.
