Havana, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has the right to live free, without the force and violence of the United States government, MEP Maximiliano Smeriglio said on Monday, during a visit to the Quisicuaba Project in this capital.

After his tour of the center, located in the Los Sitios neighborhood, in Centro Habana municipality, Smeriglio stated that Cuba is in his heart, “because it is an experience of humanity.”

He affirmed that Quiscuaba is an experience of religious, social and cultural syncretism, and expressed admiration for more than 30 social programs that the Project is developing, specifically in the work with people with social determinants.

The European lawmaker visited the museum of the Quisicuaba Project, the only one of its kind in Cuba, where he learned about the work in the soup kitchen that serves the inhabitants of all people’s councils in the municipality.

Smeriglio spoke with part of the group of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Trades School, which Quisicuaba sponsors, and was interested in the skills-building workshops provided by the project.

The MEP described his visit to Cuba as very important to learn about and explain how people live here.

He also condemned the unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuban families for more than 60 years and said, “Cuba has many friends in the European Parliament.”
