Dramatic bird’s-eye view footage has emerged of the devastating blaze that engulfed the 1,500 sq. meter-area of a warehouse in the Russian capital on Thursday evening.

The location of the fire was less than a mile from the closest residential area, in east Moscow. The blaze has since been put out, authorities reported early Friday. Over a hundred people were evacuated.

Eight members of the fire services lost their lives on Thursday, the Emergencies Ministry reported. This was most likely due to one of the sections of the roof collapsing onto the firefighters.

As many as 46 special equipment units and more than 160 firefighters and other personnel were sent to the scene of the fire, spokeswoman Oksana Zolotova added.

The warehouse that caught fire belongs to the ‘Viktoriya’ factory. It was used to store artificial flowers, its owner said. “It is a high-risk facility: chemicals, flammable materials, ammonia, pressurized tanks and other dangerous materials are normally stored there – those would have been hazardous to the health of anyone living in the vicinity,” Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov said in a Friday statement.
