Baghdad, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri assured that Lebanon will reject any Israeli attempt to invade maritime borders, in his first statements during a visit to Iraq.

Berri made the remarks to Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel-Mahdi, media reported on Monday.

'(Israel) covets our water, but we are not going to give up a cup,' Berri said in his interview with the Iraqi prime minister.

On other occasions, the Lebanese legislative leader warned of a possible Israeli invasion of potential oil and gas reserves in disputed waters between Beirut and Tel Aviv.

Lebanon hopes to begin its first prospections in maritime areas later this year, one of which is in territory that the Israeli regime wants to usurp.

Facing that threat, the Speaker stated that the union was the best defense against Tel Aviv.

Berri arrived in Iraq on Sunday on an official visit to comply with an invitation from his peer Mohammed al-Halbousi.
