Hanser, Hanser, again and again “the Pollo”. And he actually has a gift to reserve special and thrilling moments for us.

First, it was his second place in Guadalajara 2011 with 48.34s. Then, he swam the distance in 48.04s in the Olympics, for a notable 7th place. Afterwards, 49.00s in Veracruz after having suffered dengue a month before, it was a prowess.

Doha, venue of the XII edition of the FINA Short Course World Championship, was not a promised land for him even though he is still our leading man for Rio 2016. Regarding results, he was the best of our three swimmers. Backstroker Armando Barreras (44, 54.41s in 100 meters, and 42, 25.0s in 50m), and 17 years-old freestyler Elisbet Gamez (47, 56.61s, and 44, 2.02.18s in 100m) were the other Cuban representatives.

Therefore, let’s focus on Hanser. His 47.59s in the 100m allowed him to end 14th among 162 swimmers registered. Meanwhile in the 50m, his 22.07s (improving his registration 22.18s) just helped him to end 35th place.

Beyond Hanser and the critical situation of Cuban swimming since long time ago, Brazil surprised the world with its 7 gold medals, and two dozens of world records were broken.
