It is a closed chapter that Cuba led the 22nd Central American Games and Mexico´s dream to dethrone us was left behind.

The closing ceremony organized at Luis ¨Pirata¨ Puentes Stadium marked the end of a sport celebration with great rivalry and high level in most sport disciplines.

The ceremony started with the words delivered by the Central American Sports Organization chairman, Hector Cardona: “We don´t say good bye to Veracruz, because it is already part of us”.

The executive also highlighted the opening ceremony of the Games as well as the high athletes´ participation, which included a record number of women participating. He also stressed that 56 records were set.

Cardona also pointed out: “People of Veracruz, you have organized the best Games ever”.

Colombia gave hints of its culture with the song Se va el caiman, announcing what to expect in Barranquilla 2018.

Grandpa “Lupe” and Granddaughter “Aranza”, of Totonac origin, returned after attending the opening ceremony and were responsible for the quenching of the flame.

Juanes performed at the end. The Colombian singer-songwriter played some of his most popular songs “Nada valgo sin tu amor” and “A Dios le pido”.
