Durand returned to training on the stadium track after completing a rehabilitation phase at La Pradera International Center in the Cuban capital during December and January.

The Cuban suffered an injury at the last World Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where she won the gold medals in 100, 200 and 400 meters T12 (deep visual weaknesses), as she did in the VI Parapan-American Games of Lima, Peru, both last year.

For these achievements, the five-time monarch in the Paralympic Games, is nominated for the 2019 Laureus Awards for Best Athlete with Disabilities, the gala will be held on February 17 in Berlin, Germany.

In dialogue with JIT, Omara Durand sent a congratulation message to the medical team of La Pradera and to all who helped her there for the successful recovery.

On the return to the conditioning sessions coach Miriam Ferrer pondered the work on the rehabilitation of her pupil in that center because "she has arrived in very good form to return to the general preparation."

Ferrer said that Omara will have to complete a training base in Guatemala from April 5.

He said the athlete could participate in an official competition for the first time this year in a Grand Prix in June in Poland.

Omara Durand is the first Cuban disabled athlete qualified for Tokyo 2020, where she hopes to reach another golden triplet as in the previous version of Rio de Janeiro 2016.
