The Matanzas team develops its pre-preparation stage at the start of the second phase of the Cuban Baseball Championship in which it will debut on Sunday 27th on the set of Santiago de Cuba, in its Victoria de Girón park.

In the case of the six teams of this stage, each one must make changes in their lineups to accommodate reinforcements, replacing the starting players who are currently preparing for the Cuba team for Premier 12 and who will develop some training days in Taipei of China.

The director of the Crocodiles, Armando Ferrer and his assistants have emphasized adapting to the game of Matanzas to the reinforcements, fundamentally, those that must open as headlines, say the Avilanian receiver Alfredo Fadraga, which would complete a new central line next to the Daviel Gómez, or Mayabequense Rangel Ramos, the second base of the Isla de la Juventud, Dainier Gálvez and the central patrolman Matanzas Eduardo Blanco.

In that first commitment to the Wasps of Santiago de Cuba, Ferrer could use left-handed Yamichel Pérez, Sancti Spíritus and Guantanamo Dairon Mena in the box, along with the always stellar Pinar del Rio Yosvani Torres, in addition to Entenza, David Mena or the difficult Jonder Martínez, also ready to launch.

There is no doubt that a good result in this phase depends a lot on the performance of the reinforcements, something that in recent years has been key to winning the championships.  Of the 15 sub series scheduled, Matanzas will be “home club” in eight with the first two against Santiago de Cuba on 27th, 28th and 29th and Industrial, the last day of this month, as well as the 1st. and November 2nd, commitments that must fill the Matanzas installation.

Then they would go on tour to face Cienfuegos in the September 5th stadium on days 4th, 5th and 6 next month and Camaguey from 8th to 10th in Cándido González, to return to the Victory of Girón and face them with the current national champion, Las Tunas, from 12th to 14th.

In the second round of this calendar the meetings are reversed and then Matanzas will face Cienfuegos and Camagüey at home and visit Santiago, Havana and Las Tunas. The third and last stage would be identical to the first.  The Series would end on December 22nd, the date on which the four teams that will go to the semifinals will be known, possibly at the top of five games to win three, with clashes between the first against the fourth and the second with the third. The winners will be those who discuss the title of the country in mid-January 2020.

Recall that the record for the most second-stage victories of our National Series belongs to Matanzas when in the 2017-2018 contests he won 33 games and lost twelve, under the direction of Victor Figueroa. A year before, but led by Víctor Mesa, the Matanzas ship achieved the impressive mark of 70 games won and 20 lost, which is the maximum conquest for a set in the 90 crash tournaments in the country.
