The Chinese Taipei U-15 National Team kept their medal hopes alive with an 8-5 win over Cuba on the last day of Super Round competition at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2018. Both Chinese Taipei and Cuba finish the Super Round with 2-3 records — Cuba will surrender its reign on baseball’s U-15 world title, which the nation has held since 2014.

Cuba took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, after Frank Gonzalez drove in two runs on a single to centre and Kevin Alcolea Rivero followed with an RBI single to right.

Leyfi Llanez Castillo gave Cuba a 5-0 lead in third inning with a two-run single.

Held scoreless to the fourth inning, I Li-Chan blasted a three-run double, as Chinese Taipei tied the game, following RBIs hits from Kai-Yu Liu and Yu-Min Lin.

In the fifth, Chinese Taipei kept hitting and used a two out double from Ring-En Wu to take the lead before Yu-Min Lin’s two-run single put them on top by three runs.

Cuba loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Chinese Taipei used a pick-off at second base to escape the inning with the 8-5 lead secure.

Chen-Yi Hung took the win after tossing 4.1 innings of relief while Cuba reliever Kevin Rosales Hernandez suffered the loss.

In the Consolation Round, Australia knocked off Germany, 8-2.
