Palestinian journalist Mohammed al-Qeeq has suspended his 94-day-long hunger strike after reaching an agreement with Israeli authorities for his release in May.    

al-Qeeq, who inspired international protests as his health deteriorated, was protesting his indefinite detention without trial, a common practice with Israel’s administrative detention policy. He was reporting from Ramallah for a Saudi news channel and accused of “incitement” and collaborating with the Palestinian political party Hamas.    

The Palestinian Detainees’ Committee said Friday that al-Qeeq and Israeli authorities signed an agreement that will ensure he receives medical treatment and is released from Nafha prison on May 21. His wife, Fayha al-Qeeq, told the Associated Press that the news is a "very big victory for us and for him."

Last week, teleSUR's correspondent in Gaza reported that al-Qeeq's case had spurred major protests in the blockaded Palestinian territory.
