First Stage of Pepe Rivas Solar Park in Cienfuegos Completed

The first stage of the Pepe Rivas photovoltaic park in Cienfuegos province is now ready to generate 15 megawatts (MW) of the 21.8 MW planned for this investment, starting today, once its total installation is complete.

During the recognition ceremony for Electrical Workers' Day, held at the site itself, updates on the project's progress and the prospects for generation using this type of renewable source were shared.

Lianne Horta, an investment specialist at the Cienfuegos Electric Company (EEPC), stated that over 1,170 of a total of 1,638 mounting structures have already been installed, along with approximately 30,400 panels.

Several entities are working on the 32-hectare site dedicated to the investment, including Construction Company for Architectural Works No. 37, Construction Company for Engineering Works No. 12, the Prefabrication and Premixed Concrete, Power Generators and Electrical Services Company, and the Integrated Automation Company.

The "Pepe Rivas" park will be connected to the power lines from the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes thermoelectric plant, as explained to the Cuban News Agency by Attius Rodríguez Peña, director of the Renewable Energy Sources Business Unit at EEPC.

The Pepe Rivas facility, located a few kilometers from the provincial capital, is the fourth of its kind with a capacity of 21.8 MW to be built in Cienfuegos territory, following the inauguration of Alcalde Mayor and La Yuca, both in Abreus municipality, and Mal Tiempo in Cruces.

To expand solar generation in Cienfuegos territory, land clearing has begun to construct other photovoltaic facilities in the Juraguá area, with a capacity of 5 MW and a 2 MW battery storage system.

Also, in the Cumanayagua-Cienfuegos circuit, a project is underway to build four facilities with a capacity of 21.8 MW each, along with a 126 MW substation and a 40 MW storage unit.

In addition to these investments undertaken since 2024, Cienfuegos has six smaller facilities located in the municipalities of Aguada de Pasajeros, Abreus, Rodas, Cruces, Palmira, and in the provincial capital.

Solar generation in this territory began in 2014 with the Cantarrana facility, which is why many of these stations now require some upgrades for their operation.
