Havana's Popular Festivals to Celebrate Triumph of the Revolution

The Cuban capital will be dressed for celebration today, with simultaneous shows in plazas, streets, and parks of each municipality starting at 8:00 p.m. local time, to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution.

The Ministry of Culture, the main organizing entity, will provide details about the programming on its official communication channels.

At La Piragua, in the Plaza de la Revolución, musicians Mónica Mesa, Elito Revé y su Charangón, along with the Conjunto Folclórico Nacional, will perform, under the direction of Carlos Vila and Leydis Díaz.

The program will extend to Centro Habana, with Iván “el hijo de Teresa” and the company Componedores, and to Habana Vieja, where Son del Solar and Nirvana Flamenco will animate Cristo Park.

Musical diversity will also be reflected on Calle Mayor in San Miguel del Padrón, with Charanga Forever and the company Banrarrás; in Regla with Azúcar Negra; and in Guanabacoa with Chispa y los Cómplices, alongside Yumurí y sus Hermanos.

In the Cerro municipality, the group Carlón y la Novena will share the stage with Havana Queens and Payaso por Ley, while in 10 de Octubre, Mariana y la Maquinaria will join the Compañía JJ. The outlying municipalities will also vibrate with first-rate offerings.

Arroyo Naranjo will host the orchestra Tumbao Habana; Playa brings together Moncada, Yasser, and Tumbao Mayombe; Marianao will present Aldo y su Talismán and Jorgito y su Melodía.

La Lisa will welcome Oderquis Revé; Boyeros will feature Son Yoruba; Cotorro will host Pupy y los que son son, along with Sabor Latino; and in Habana del Este, the emblematic all-female orchestra Anacaona will join the Ballet Revolution at the Plaza África in Alamar.

The celebration is part of the national festivities for the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, which occurred on January 1, 1959, and the traditional celebrations for the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.
