Renté Thermoelectric Power Plant Resumes Operations After Breakdown

The Antonio Maceo Grajales Thermoelectric Power Plant, in Santiago de Cuba, synchronized with the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) today, marking a step forward in recovering its operational capacity after being out of service for several days due to an electrical fault.

The restoration process began in the early morning when unit number six was synchronized at 04:00 hours today, allowing the plant to begin generating electricity again.

Later, at 17:00 hours, the synchronization of unit number five was completed, increasing the combined generated power to over 110 megawatts. This is fundamental for ensuring the stability of the electrical service in the eastern region of the country.

With these advances, we guarantee a substantial contribution to the SEN, and to the stability of the electricity supply, both at the regional and national levels, Jesus Aguilar Hernández, General Director of the power plant, also known as Renté, stated exclusively to the ACN.

The executive recalled that the plant was shut down on October 2nd due to a breakdown that required an intensive maintenance process in several areas, especially in the electrical infrastructure.

This work included repairing the damage and improving operational conditions, which will result in greater reliability and stability in power generation, he affirmed.

Aguilar Hernández explained that despite the progress, unit number three remains out of service, although it is expected to be synchronized to the SEN in the coming days, which will further increase the plant's generation capacity.

The restoration of the generating units has been possible thanks to collaboration between several entities in the energy sector, under the direction of the Cuban Electrical Union. Specialists with extensive experience worked in a coordinated manner to guarantee the success of the synchronization process.
