Photovoltaic Park Inaugurated in El Rincón, Havana

Ceremony Presided Over by Senior Cuban Leaders

The inauguration of Havana’s new photovoltaic park took place this Saturday in the locality of El Rincón, Boyeros municipality, with the presence of Commander of the Revolution and Deputy Prime Minister Ramiro Valdés Menéndez; First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Liván Izquierdo Alonso; Governor of Havana, Yanet Hernández Pérez; First Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Argelio Abad Vigoa; and Deputy Director of the Electric Union, Omar Ramírez Mendoza.

Rapid Construction and Strategic Location

The project was completed in just three months, responding to Havana’s urgent energy needs and in line with efforts to commemorate the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

Despite challenges, the workforce pressed forward relentlessly to complete the solar park, located half a kilometer from the National Sanctuary of San Lázaro in El Rincón. Built on a cleared plain, the facility now houses rows of solar panels capable of delivering 21.87 MW of power, with an annual output of 35,000 MWh.

The park’s location was chosen to optimize solar capture, ensuring maximum generation efficiency.

Commitment to Renewable Energy

The resources allocated to the project reflect the State’s determination to expand alternative sources of electricity generation. The investment required advanced technologies and materials, but, above all, it demanded the dedication of workers, technicians, and engineers.

Thanks to their joint efforts, the project was completed ahead of schedule. As officials noted, this was “a work of titans,” made possible by collective determination.

Recognition of Workers and Collectives

During the opening ceremony, recognition was given to workers and collectives who played a key role throughout the different stages of construction.

Delivering the central remarks, the Governor of Havana underscored the significance of the achievement, stating that it symbolized “the value of collective effort and the commitment to the recovery and development of the capital.”
