Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Cuba's Minister of Transportation, today highlighted on his Facebook page the honesty and human commitment of the Route 11 transporters in Havana.
In his post, the minister highlighted the gesture of the driver of Gazelle 637 of Route 11 (Diezmero-La Ceguera), Janier Fernández Delgado, and the driver Yosvany Guerra Rodríguez, who returned a purse lost by a passenger, raffirming that ethical values remain in force in the union.
The post reports that the incident was reported by user Lucy González in the Facebook group "Transportación Habana TH," where she publicly thanked the workers for returning her belongings, which contained personal documents, bank cards, and the only cash she had.
"Thank you to them for their kind gesture, a fact that shows there are still honest people in our Cuba," González wrote.
According to Janier Fernández, who spoke to the Desafío team, Lucy got off the vehicle near Miguel Enríquez Hospital without realizing she had left her purse on the seat. Another passenger attempted to steal the item, but was intercepted by the driver at the end of the trip in Diezmero, San Miguel del Padrón. With the support of a Ministry of the Interior officer, the purse was recovered and its rightful owner verified.
In his message, Rodríguez Dávila specifies that the Taxi Agency protocol was followed: presentation of the item to management and the corresponding investigation, before returning the purse to its rightful owner, in this case at the victim's home.
For both workers, the minister asserts in the text, the gesture was not exceptional, but rather part of a professional ethic they consider essential: "Everything left in the car is returned. That's something we take for granted," stated Janier, quoted in the note.
The Ministry of Transportation has highlighted the gesture as an example of professional and humane conduct, in line with the principles that govern public service in Cuba.
