Cuban runner Oleysi Ferrer captured the gold medal today in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción.

Ferrer clocked a Games-record time of 8:54.20, securing Cuba’s seventh gold in athletics and placing his country at the top of the sport’s medal tally.

Brazil’s Mateus de Alencar finished second in 8:57.82, while Mexico’s Roberto Márquez claimed bronze with 9:02.34.

In the women’s race, Peru’s Verónica Huacasi also set a Games record, crossing the line in 20:20.55 to take the gold.
