Summer Film Festival Dedicates Day to Cuban Cinema

The 9th Summer Film Festival is dedicating a day to national productions, establishing it as Cuban Cinema Day.

The Charles Chaplin, Yara, Acapulco, and Multicine Infanta theaters will feature programming at 5:00 p.m. local time, with screenings of outstanding and classic Cuban films from throughout the country’s history as well as more recent works. At 6:00 p.m., the Riviera cinema will host the central activity, according to the Cubacine website.

The program also includes recently restored films, such as “Capablanca,” and the newly released documentary “Mijaín,” which offers a look at the life and athletic career of the five-time Greco-Roman wrestling world champion.

Animated cinema is also represented, notably with the feature film “Vampires in Havana” by Juan Padrón.

Other offerings in this edition are part of the Vivartes 23 project, a festival that has been taking place in the capital since July 11 with a blend of artistic expressions in outdoor settings. It features cinema, music, and street art along the entire length of 23rd Avenue, creating a large festive stage with a meeting point at 10th and 12th streets.

The August program includes concerts, film screenings, and a DJ space.
