Nobel Peace Prizewinner, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, stressed yesterday that despite the great difficulties the U.S. government's blockade has caused, Cuba today promotes and guarantees human rights with integrity.

The prestigious Argentine activist was presiding over a discussion on Cuban human rights that was held yesterday night at the headquarters of the Association of State Workers in Buenos Aires, as part of the program 'Fidel, 90 Años Haciendo Historia' a celebration of Fidel's next birthday.

As part of the activity, a shortened version of the documentary 'Hechos mas que Palabras' (2007), by Argentina filmmaker Carolina Silvestre was screened.

The film shows Cubans talking about the guarantees they enjoy, from a participatory democracy to social, prison, cultural, medical and religious benefits.

Perez Esquivel unmasked, with examples and stories, many of the campaigns Washington has orchestrated against Cuba.

"This issue was and is being manipulated as political and media propaganda in a bid to discredit the Cuban Revolution," the president of the Peace and Justice Service said.

He went on to say that what Cubans practice internally is expressed abroad through their program of humanitarian aid - sending doctors, teachers, technicians and professionals who contribute to human development in many countries worldwide.

He added that one of the greatest contributions Fidel Castro made to the revolution was increasing awareness among Cuban people.
