Venezuelan and Russian authorities are making progress today in strengthening cooperation relations in various areas of interest, with a view to raising bilateral ties to a higher level.

With an agenda focused on the consolidation of the strategic partnership between the two nations, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov visited the South American nation this week, as part of a tour of several Latin American countries.

During his stay in Venezuela, the high-ranking official held working meetings with the main authorities of the Bolivarian Executive, which culminated with the signing of an Agreement of Intent to strengthen the strategic alliance of comprehensive cooperation, in the context of a relationship of mutual respect.

On this matter, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro highlighted a recent telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which the parties emphasized the sustained progress of the exchange links, in spite of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the framework of the High Level Intergovernmental Meeting, the Head of State also stressed that Venezuela and Russia ratified the path of a powerful military cooperation for the defense of peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Maduro also ratified Venezuela’s full support for Russia in the face of threats related to the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Eastern Europe and the media campaigns of the United States and the West against Moscow.
