Caracas, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, on Monday advocated for the construction of spaces of peace and union with Colombia in the border region between both countries.

On Twitter, the minister congratulated the Colombian people for their determination for change and democratic victory in the presidential election held on Sunday, in which the Historic Pact ticket, Gustavo Petro and Francia Marquez, were elected.

“Let’s hope that from now on, the borders between Venezuela and Colombia will be spaces of peace and union between our peoples, bonded by the same history and great spirit of Simon Bolivar,” Padrino tweted.

On Sunday, the Venezuelan government expressed its willingness to work in the construction of a renewed stage of relations with Colombia.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Bolivarian government congratulated the Colombian people on the historic election day, and also celebrated the triumph of Petro and Marquez at the polls.

“The sovereign people of Colombia took to the streets with great civility to exercise their right to vote and express their decision for change,” the Venezuelan government said.

It added that this electoral result reflects the will of the majority of Colombians who seek justice and peace for their country.
