Cuban Deputy Culture Minister Kenelma Carvajal on Saturday described her visit to the United Kingdom as fruitful, given the interest from British universities in developing new projects with the Caribbean nation.

A path of exchanges is opening up, said the official, who met with authorities from the Nottingham Trent University and the rectors of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and the University of London School Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), during her stay on British territory.

Carvajal also highlighted the reception to the exhibition of movie posters, the screening of films and the performances by young Cuban musicians at a local gallery, as part of a cultural week organized by the University of Nottingham in northern England.

It was very moving to see the interest aroused by Cuba among British youths, she told Prensa Latina, in reference to the CartelON project, the screening of the documentary film “La dictadura del algoritmo” (The Dictatorship of Algorithm), whose director, Javier Gomez, was present to talk with the public, and the performances by the Espiral duet and singer songwriter Ariel Barreiros.

Carvajal added that she addressed with RADA and SOAS authorities the possibility of developing new projects with the University of the Arts of Cuba, especially, she said, in the field of music.

The deputy culture minister also met, along with Cuban Ambassador Barbara Montalvo, with a representation of members of the Cuban community in the United Kingdom, and Cuban students enrolled in the Chevening scholarship program, sponsored by the British Government.
