Bishkek, May 27 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced on Friday before the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council the impact of the tightening of the U.S. blockade against the Caribbean island in the current context of the international crisis.

The Cuban leader spoke by video message at the meeting organized in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's capital,  which brought together the heads of state and government of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU): Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as Moldova, Uzbekistan and Cuba, with observer status.

Diaz-Canel warned that at this moment, access to expensive food and fuel imports affects Cuba, a situation aggravated by Washington's hostility.

In another part of his speech, he called attention to the continuous attempts by the United States to expand the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) toward the countries of Eastern Europe.

He stated that Washington and the military bloc are directly responsible for the outcome of the events taking place in Europe today.

"The military conflict could have been avoided if Russia's well-founded demands for security guarantees had been taken seriously and respectfully into account," he said.

He stressed that the Caribbean island will continue to defend peace in all circumstances, committed to international law and the Charter of the United Nations. It advocates for a lasting solution to the conflict through serious dialogue between the parties that offer guarantees of security and sovereignty for all.

Likewise, he said Cuba opposes unilateral coercive measures against Russia and Belarus, which aggravate the regional and international economic situation and hinder the possibilities of development for our peoples.

"Cuba is committed to cooperation, solidarity, and integration and is resolutely committed to finding viable solutions to the world's serious problems," he concluded.
