The vice president of the association Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop), Manuel Pascual, presented on Saturday, at the Fête de l'Humanité, a project that will support the training of Cuban athletes for the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.

On the second day of the traditional event in the Paris Region, Pascual recalled the impact of the United States blockade against Cuba in the field of sports and the importance of expanding collaboration in this sector.

In this regard, he noted that Washington’s blockade affects the quality of facilities, the training of high-performance athletes, the access to equipment, and even the participation in competitions, due to the delay or refusal to grant visas.

This is why CubaCoop has decided to accompany Cuba in its preparation for Paris-2024, he said at a debate moderated by the vice president of Information of Prensa Latina news agency, Luisa Maria Gonzalez.

According to Pascual, several sports are covered by the project, from athletics, handball, boxing, and basketball to fencing, judo, triathlon, and volleyball.

In order to move forward, we have talked with sports federations from France and Cuba, and we have coordinated with a score of cities and municipalities willing to welcome Cuban athletes, he explained at the meeting.

The CubaCoop vice-president pointed out that the athletes’ stay will facilitate their acclimatization to the venue and training in optimal conditions, and at the same time it will help young French athletes to work with world-class competitors.

He also acknowledged the Cuban’s sports development, despite the US blockade, which has not prevented the Caribbean island from reaching the top 20 in the medal table of the Summer Olympic Games.
