Raul and Diaz-Canel attend funeral services of Jose M. Miyar

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Revolution, and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, today attended the funeral services of Dr. José Miguel Miyar Barrueco, whose mortal remains were laid to rest in the Pantheon of the Revolutionary Armed Forces at the Cristobal Colon Cemetery in the Cuban capital.

In his farewell remarks, the Commander of the Rebel Army, José Ramón Machado Ventura, recalled the revolutionary trajectory of Chomy, as he was known by family and friends, since he joined the clandestine struggle in his native city of Santiago de Cuba and later in the José Martí Column 1 of the Rebel Army.

He highlighted aspects of his extensive service record in numerous responsibilities and tasks as a leader, including those of vice minister of Public Health, Rector of the University of Havana, and general director of the National Citrus Program.

Among his recognitions are the condition of Doctor Honoris Causa in Biological Sciences, Professor of Merit of the "Victoria de Girón" School of Medicine and the University of Havana.

Machado pointed out that Miyar Barrueco served as Secretary of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, and worked very dedicated and faithfully with Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in addition to having been Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, among other responsibilities.

He is also a Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba, Founder of the Communist Party of Cuba, member of the Central Committee of the PCC and deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power.

Along with family, friends and colleagues, other leaders of the Cuban Party and government, as well as a representation of scientists and health personnel, attended to pay their last respects to Chomy at the Colon Cemetery.
