Rally in Italy against Europe’s rearmament and for peace

A national demonstration against the rearmament of Europe and in favor of world peace is taking place in Rome, organized by a wide network of social organizations in Italy, including leftist parties, pacifist groups and trade unions.
A statement published on the official website of the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL) points out that this demonstration is part of the protests that from June 21 to 29 will take place against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit to be held on June 24 and 25 in The Hague, Netherlands.
“The mobilization takes on even greater importance in light of the latest developments in the Middle East between Israel and Iran, which threaten to expand the war scenario globally; the siege and massacre that continues in the Gaza Strip, and a war that seems to have no end in Ukraine,” the union says in its call.
With the theme “No to rearmament”, the initiative was launched jointly by the Italian Network for Peace and Disarmament, the Association for Social Promotion (ARCI) and the Association for Citizen Action (Attac), among many other groups, so it is expected that tens of thousands of people will participate in this protest.
“Only together can we build a barrier against war, genocide and authoritarianism,” declare the promoters of this march, which will start at 14:00 local time from Porta San Paolo and end at 17:30 in the area of the Colosseum, next to Via Claudia, in the center of the Italian capital.
