Buenos Aires, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Argentine social organizations and a legal team prepare a report to support a request for a presidential pardon for the leader of the Tupac Amaru group, Milagro Sala, reported today newspaper Página 12.

Seven years after her arrest, members of the Grandmothers and Mothers of Plaza de Mayo-Founding Line, the Committee for the Freedom of Milagro and the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights, among other organizations, reiterated their support for the social leader and denounced the violations of due process in her case.

Sala was arrested in 2016 for allegedly inciting violence when she led a protest in Jujuy against changes imposed on the cooperatives program by the governor of that province, Gerardo Morales.

She is currently under house arrest, but the authorities of that territory request her transfer to a common prison and reject her doctors’ requests to take her to a specialized center to treat her for episodes of deep vein thrombosis that endanger her life.

During the last years, multiple organizations denounced the humiliation, abuse and attacks suffered by her and last December condemned the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) to ratify a sentence of 13 years in prison for alleged illicit association and defrauding the State.

The CSJ validated the political and judicial persecution against Sala by rejecting an extraordinary federal appeal filed by her defense for violations of due process, said the Argentine Human Rights Secretariat.

The highest court declared an illegitimate sentence to be final, a situation that compromises the State’s international responsibility.

Since the government of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), the lawfare (legal warfare) laboratory was installed in Jujuy, aimed at persecuting political opponents through the use of the criminal and media system, it added.
