President Lula to talk with Xi about Russia-Ukraine conflict

Brasilia, Mar 21 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Tuesday said he will meet and talk with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping about peace negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“I´m going to meet with Xi Jinping, because China is an all-important nation, which can have a more serious discussion with the United States,” Lula said in an interview with TV 247.

He said Presidents Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz were told that Brazil is willing to make any effort to guarantee peace worldwide”.

It´s necessary for more countries to talk about the possibility of peace, while the United States and Europe continue to supply weapons and disburse financial assistance to Kyiv, Lula added.

“Someone has to start talking about peace. Because the United States and Europe are not talking about peace. The whole world is directly and indirectly involved in the Ukraine conflict,” he pointed out, while stating that Russia “is not just any country”.

Lula praised Xi’s official visit to Moscow this week and called it a good first.

“It is already a great news that China has gone there (Russia), good news…And I´m convinced that Brazil can contribute to putting an end to the Ukraine conflict”, Lula remarked.
