President Díaz-Canel mourned the death of renowned Cuban actor

Havana, Sept 29 (RHC) Through his official Twitter account , Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, regretted the death of prominent actor Manuel Porto, whom he described as 'a great of the scene', and conveyed his condolences to relatives and co-workers.

Díaz-Canel also considered the artist 'a full-time patriot' and assured that 'his personal and social work is among the most relevant in the culture' of the Caribbean nation.

'May his valuable ethical and artistic legacy remain forever,' he wrote about the creator of the Korimakao community ensemble and multiple characters marked in the memory of Cubans.

The National Council of Performing Arts confirmed today the death of Porto, victim of Covid-19 the same day he would have turned 76 years old.

The actor was known for his versatility and his training included participations in numerous plays, movies and television over the last five decades, with masters such as Vicente Revuelta, Reynaldo Miravalles and Raquel Revuelta.

Porto founded and led Korimakao which, for more than 20 years, made concrete the desire to make art from and for the community located in Ciénaga de Zapata, in the western province of Matanzas.

To his professional performance are added outstanding roles in classics of contemporary Cuban cinema such as Caravana (1990), Se permuta (1984), Barrio Cuba (2005), José Martí, el ojo del canario (2010) and Esteban (2016).

He is considered one of the greatest acting talents in the largest of the Antilles, and among his many distictions he was awarded with the National Community Culture Award and the Replica of the Machete of General Máximo Gómez, granted by the Ministry of Culture and the Council of State, respectively.(Source: Prensa Latina)
