President of China highlights strategic ties with Russia

The President of China Xi Jinping reportedly highlighted Beijing's interest in developing strategic relations with Moscow, during a meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

“Strengthening our ties is a necessity, taking into account the current context and the prevailing trends in the world,” a joint statement highlights.

During the meeting, they held a “deep exchange of views on the Ukrainian issue” with the aim of seeking a peaceful solution to the conflict, the TASS news agency reported.

Xi assured that China will play a constructive role in promoting a political solution to the tensions with Ukraine, as most states support the peace talks.

The Chinese president met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Tuesday, and held talks in a reduced format with Putin.

According to reports, the signing of two joint declarations and some 10 intergovernmental agreements is expected.
