Havana, July 2 (RHC)-- With the double inclusion of Carlos Daniel Ramos and Luis Gustavo Cañabate in the semifinal of the men's individual platform diving, Cuba said goodbye this Saturday to the diving competition at the Fina 2022 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

After celebrating during the morning their passes to the group of the best 18 of the event, Carlos Daniel finished in 16th place in the semifinal and one seat below was his teammate Luis Gustavo, thus closing a performance that in a general sense is considered as very good.

"It is a good result for everyone. They overachieved the objective of coming here and competing with new programs, with high degrees of difficulty and ridden in very few months", acknowledged the national commissioner, Milagros González, referring to the results of the whole group in the Hungarian capital.

Carlos Daniel scored 359.30 points, while Cañanabate scored 353.95 units, accumulated slightly lower than those recorded in the morning session, but the performance of both was within the margin of what was expected by their trainers.

Cuba also celebrated with two sixth places, in which Carlos Daniel was always involved. The pair he formed with Luis Gustavo took sixth place in the synchronized platform event and together with Anisley García, they placed sixth in the synchronized mixed platform event.

The 18-year-old enjoyed during most of the year 2021 a scholarship granted by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in the Russian city of Kazan, and it is evident that he made good use of his stay in that world training center.

The results of the Island's divers in the Magyar city were completed with the 12th place of Anisley-Cañabate as a mixed springboard and platform team; and the semifinal finishes of Carlos Escalona in the springboard from three meters and Anisley in the platform.

"The world championship was of great quality. The best in the world are here, since only Russia was absent, and our main objective was to compete with the difficult jumps we had set up. That's why I think we over-achieved, if we look at the results," said head coach Hugo Perez de Corcho.

"It is an accomplishment what has been achieved. All the athletes and coaches are very happy and we are grateful for the support of all those who have had to do with this result," he said, convinced that this is a collective merit.

And he was right, because from both sides of the Atlantic, the whole group of trainers that make up Yuderka Alemán, María Elena Carmuza, Víctor Manuel Toranzo, Jeinkler Aguirre and Daylet Valdéz, all committed to this new generation of jumpers, whose gaze is now fixed on the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
