Various political and social actors are organizing a People's Summit parallel to the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU) that will take place in Brussels, the Belgium capital, next July 17-18.

Organizers of the People's Summit plan activities from July 15th-18th. Cataloged as a popular event, it will address several topics such as: the promotion of an alternative model of development, cooperation and integration, fairer, more supportive and sustainable; as well as the exchange of experiences of struggle and resistance.

Strengthening ties between popular movements, unions, solidarity groups, migrant communities, associations, personalities and political forces from both continents is another of the objectives of the meeting, where the need to promote fair relations between peoples and governments of Latin America and the Caribbean with the peoples and governments of the European Union, will also be discussed, always abiding international law, non-interference, sovereignty, and self-determination.

Among the nearly 30 organizations from both regions that are organizing this Summit are the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the United Nations Cuba Association and the Martin Luther King Center.

In addition to the workshops, conferences, and debates on various topics, the Summit program includes a Festival of Cultural Solidarity among Latin American, Caribbean and European Peoples, as well as a meeting between Heads of Delegations to the Official Summit and social leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean with civil society organizations from Europe.

For organizers, the People's Summit comes with hope in a world in crisis and in the midst of transformation. The event will be a space where the voices of organizations and social movements from all corners of Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean will be raised.
