Over 105,000 migrants returned to Nicaragua

Managua, Mar 5 (Prensa Latina) More than 105,000 Nicaraguan migrants stranded abroad after the global Covid-19 pandemic begun in March 2020 returned to the Central American country, the Ministry of Interior (MIGOB) reported today.

Since March 11, 2020, when Covid-19 was declared as a pandemic, as many as 105,327 Nicaraguans have returned to the nation from different countries, including 8,179 who were stranded in Panama at the time of the start of the health crisis, MIGOB said in a press release.

On Thursday night, a group of 83 Nicaraguan citizens arrived at the Peñas Blancas border post, on the border with Costa Rica (south.

Each of the migrants showed a negative result of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Covid-19 test, in compliance with the resolution issued for these immigration proceedings by Nicaragua´s Ministry of Health.

Health authorities at the border carried out clinical check-outs for possible fever or respiratory symptoms related to the disease and ordered migrants to a 14-day quarantine at their homes.
