Moscow, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada highlighted during a recent visit to Russia the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), which his country is celebrating on Friday.

The foreign minister recalled that the FSLN gave continuity to the anti-imperialist and just struggle by Julio Cesar Sandino, 'facing the US armed and political intervention in the past and in this century, until achieving the national liberation.'

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina in Moscow, Moncada pointed out that as of its founding, on July 23, 1961, the Front has been at the forefront of the Nicaraguan people's struggle to achieve the victory of the Sandinista Popular Revolution, on July 19, 1961.

The head of Nicaraguan diplomacy recalled that during the 10 years in power, the FSLN faced a counterrevolution financed and supported by the United States, 'with more than 15,000 men-at-arms who attacked our State, and in which 50,000 people lost their lives.'

He assured that despite the constant attacks and external pressures, during that decade, the Front built a new State based on the structures left by the Somoza dictatorship, which represented US interests in the country.

Upon taking over the Government in 2007, President Daniel Ortega gave continuity to the advanced, progressive social projects of our initial government, the Nicaraguan minister said.
