Those who, as a result of the latest premieres of the National Ballet of Cuba, feared that the company directed by Viengsay Valdés would begin to disregard its historical repertoire, can stay at ease. The group is aiming at adding, not subtracting. And the program they’ll present starting this Friday in the city of Cárdenas, Matanzas, is an example of it.

All of the dances will be re-runs of important works from the ensemble's repertoire, which cover a wide stylistic and temporal spectrum.

A piece that the company has recently dusted off will be presented: Symphony for nine men, by the North American James Kelly; to which a classic of Cuban choreography will join: Rhythmics, by Iván Tenorio.

Classic ballet works will also be on stage like Nutcrackers, Coppelia, The Sleeping Beauty of the Forest, and Don Quixote, in the renowned versions of the unforgettable Alicia Alonso, founder and prima ballerina assoluta of the group.

Leading the cast are the first dancers Anette Delgado and Sadaise Arencibia, and other outstanding artists like Ely Regina Hernández, Chavela Riera, Amanda Pérez, Ailadi Travieso, Maríaluisa Márquez, Yankiel Vázquez, Diego Tápanes, Darío Hernández, Narciso Medina, Darío Hernández, Yasiel Hodelín, and Anyelo Montero.

Some of these performers will debut in their roles, offering a unique touch to the season. There will be performances until Sunday at the Cárdenas Theater.
