Havana, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) confirmed on Thursday that the Russian Mir payment system cards can now be used in Cuba's ATMs and banks.

The official Twitter account of that institution added that cash withdrawals can be made by converting rubles into Cuban pesos, and quoted information from Russia’s Sputnik for more details.

For its part, the Russian media outlet said that the payment system in question is still working on the issue of international acceptance of the cards in other countries, including Cuba, which is very popular among Russian tourists.

A couple of weeks ago, Russian Ambassador in Havana Andrei Guskov pointed out that the necessary procedures to integrate the Mir system in Cuba were about to be completed.

The operation with Russian cards will facilitate the development of Cuba’s tourism, which is also growing due to the increase in flights to Havana and other cities.
