The Mexican government is presently appraising all damage caused on Monday by a fierce 7.7-magnitude offshore earthquake on the same date of that in 1985 and 2017.

Mexico´s Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation Secretariat immediately set up a supervision plan to preliminarily appraise the conditions of the federal highway, airports, railway and major bridges nationwide.

Michoacán, Oaxaca, Colima, Guerrero, Hidalgo, State of Mexico and Morelos are currently being appraised, where engineers and technical personnel have been deployed to watch over and assess possible damages.

At Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport, flight operations were resumed, reporting no damage to the two terminals or runways.

Likewise, a tightness inspection was conducted on the oil storage tanks at all oil stations operating nationwide, no damage found.

All airports are operating normally, mainly Torres Manzanillo, Colima and Uruapan ones, sites where the earthquake was felt the strongest.

Rail transport has not reported any damage to infrastructure or auxiliary services, although national network is still being monitored.

Regarding the Federal Highway Network, the Colima-Tecoman highway in the “La Salada” section has been damaged, for which one lane is closed.

The National Water Commission, on the other hand, is currently overseeing the dams in order to check whether they are working properly. Some cracks have been so far reported at the Las Trojes storage dam in Colima.

No damage reports have been reported in the Plutarco Elías Calles dam (Aguascalientes´ largest dam), or in the Abelardo L. Rodríguez, Calles, Jocoqui, Potrerillos, 50th Anniversary, Niágara, Media Luna, Codorniz, Cedazo and Malpaso dams.
