Tokyo, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The Japanese government will provide humanitarian aid to Cuba in relief of the damage caused by Hurricane Ian, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced.

The official statement mentioned a shipment of water purifiers, tanks, cable reels and other relief supplies through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, in response to a request from Cuba.

“In view of the humanitarian perspective and friendly relations with Cuba, Japan has decided to provide emergency aid to support the affected people,” the statement said.

On September 28th, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida lamented the damage caused by the hurricane during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Manuel Marrero, who visited Tokyo.

The hurricane wreaked havoc mainly in the province of Pinar del Río and other neighboring provinces, where hard work is being done on recovery efforts.

Several Japanese solidarity organizations sent messages of support to the people and government of Cuba.
