Jamaican PM sends condolences to Cuba after Matanzas fire

Havana, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Thursday sent his condolences to Cuba after the fire that occurred at the Supertanker Base in Matanzas city on August 5.

In a letter published by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the president expressed his solidarity with the Government and the people of Cuba and his support due to the accident in the industrial zone of Matanzas.

So far, the accident killed two people; and at present, four patients are reported critical, five are seriously ill and eight as in need of care.

In addition, the Public Health Ministry confirmed the medical discharge of 117 injured persons.

Following the event, Cuba decreed official mourning from six o’clock on August 18 until 12:00 midnight on August 19, and confirmed that the funeral services will be held on Friday for those killed in the line of duty.
