Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, and Cuba President Miguel Díaz-Canel reaffirmed on Monday the will to continue strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the parliamentary field.

During a meeting held on Monday, Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Díaz-Canel’s visit to this nation marks a new beginning in the relations between both countries.

The Cuban head of State stressed the importance of reflecting and supporting all that has been achieved in bilateral relations at inter-parliamentary ties.

The Presidency of the Republic of Cuba informed on its X account that during the meeting, Díaz-Canel conveyed greetings from National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament) President Esteban Lazo and called upon the Iranian leader to visit Cuba.

The Cuban president thanked Iran for its historic support for the Cuban nation’s demand to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

Díaz-Canel and Iran’s President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi held official talks, which he described as confident and expressed the solid ties of brotherhood between Havana and Tehran.

Díaz-Canel recalled that then-President Fidel Castro visited Iran 22 years ago and affirmed that this sister nation sets higher targets as long as scientific and social growth.

Cuba and Iran have a solid friendship of almost 44 years, which started on August 8, 1979. Both countries are the target of sanctions by the United States.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Iran on Sunday as part of a Middle East tour that included official visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
