India and the United Nations presented a capacity development initiative for the Global South to provide experiences, best practices and knowledge to emerging partner countries, the national press reported.

The project was announced on Sunday by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during the India-UN event for the Global South at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The initiative complements the partnership between India and the UN with a program of 75 projects implemented in 61 countries over the last 6 years.

The initiative will also put into practice India’s results as Chair of the Group of Twenty (G20), including the Action Plan to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, technological transformation and building digital public infrastructure.

The India-UN event for the Global South is part of Jaishankar’s agenda in the United States, which began last Friday. The Minister will participate at the head of his delegation in the program at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), where he has scheduled to pronounce a speech on Tuesday.

The Indian foreign minister hopes to meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Dennis Francis, president of the seventy-eighth session of the UNGA.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs exchanged on topics such as the reform of multilateralism and cooperation within the context of the G20 with his counterparts: from Mexico, Alicia Bárcena; from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konakovic, and from Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan.
