The 7th International Symposium on the Stamp of Arab Culture is scheduled for October 20-24 in the Cuban capital with the participation of experts from several countries.

The forum will take place at the venue of the Cuban Arab Union (UAC) and it will be part of a series of events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this organization, “which works for the unity, identity and culture of the Arab community and their descendants living in Cuba,” said UAC Vice President Maria Deriche in a press conference.

Professors, researchers, writers, historians, students and other specialists from Cuba and Latin America will exchange ideas about topics such as the Arabs’ route; origin, environment and geographic expansion; and the Arab-Islamic influence on language, art, literature, music, architecture and culture until the present day.

Other topics of discussion during the symposium include ancient cultures of the Middle East as well as the integration and influence of the UAC on Cuban society or the Americas’ context.

The UAC was founded in April 1979 when the Cuban-Arab communities of Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian origin united to preserve their identity, culture, customs, traditions and affective bonds with the homelands of their ancestors.

Currently, the UAC brings together nearly 50,000 people and has venues in Havana, Ciego de Avila, Camaguey and Santiago de Cuba.

During the press conference, it was also announced the 10th Abdala literary contest, to be held under the auspices of the UAC. On this occasion, participants will compete in the categories of poetry, short story, essay and testimony.
