Havana, July 28 (RHC)-- The president of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, on Wednesday verified the transformation of the La Corbata neighborhood in the Havana municipality of Playa.

Accompanied by Salvador Valdés Mesa, also a member of the Political Bureau of the PCC and Vice President of the Republic, Lazo Hernández reflected, in a pleasant dialogue with the residents of this capital neighborhood, on the need to continue participating in all the processes of taking care of each of the works, not to forget history, and to strengthen discipline, values and integrated community work to transform the locality, beyond the material aspect.

Later, the delegation toured several social works such as the mixed winery, which contributes to bring this basic service closer to the inhabitants, and an agricultural sales point, where in conversation with its workers.

The La Corbata Cultural Technology Center was also inaugurated, a modern facility for the recreation of the neighbors, especially the younger ones, with different new technology features.

More than six months of constructive actions in this community of 1,200 inhabitants have allowed the asphalting of streets, as well as the construction and improvement of houses, a wifi park and a boulevard.

Juan Carlos García Granda, Minister of Tourism; Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar and Reinaldo García Zapata, first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and governor of Havana, respectively; among other authorities of the province and the municipality, also participated in the event.

La Corbata is located on the border between the populous municipalities of Playa and La Lisa, so in order to access some basic services, residents had to travel long distances from one locality to the other.

These efforts are part of the government program to improve the services and living conditions of the residents of 62 neighborhoods in the 15 municipalities of Havana, an initiative that extends throughout the country, with the support of state entities such as the Ministries of Tourism, Construction, Labor and Social Security, and Physical Planning, among others.

The direct participation of the neighbors in the identification of needs and in the works allows establishing the priorities of the local development strategy based on the potentialities of each site.
