Death toll from floods in Pakistan rises to 1,545

Islamabad, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The death toll from floods in Pakistan rose to 1,545 after 37 people died while 92 were injured in the last 24 hours in flood-related incidents.

According to data released by the National Disaster Management Authority another 32 people perished in Sindh province and five in Balochistan, The Express Tribune said.

The new 92 injured include 91 in Sindh territory and one in Gilgit-Baltistan, bringing the total number of people injured as a result of monsoon rains and floods to 12,850.

Up to 104,000 houses were damaged during the previous day and at least 8,252 head of livestock died during that period in incidents related to the heavy rains.

Meanwhile, economic losses due to the floods in the country exceeded 40 billion dollars, according to the authorities.
