Havana, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) The contributions of Cuba's immunology are vital today in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, but also in the treatment of types of cancer with its own vaccines and monoclonal antibodies.

The statement was contained in an article published by the Cuban Public Health Ministry (Minsap) to commemorate the International Day of Immunology on Friday, an initiative promoted in 2005 by the European Federation of Immunological Societies and celebrated since 2007 worldwide.

The fight against the Covid-19 pandemic was the culmination of the impact of the specialty in Cuba with the contribution of immunologists in the design and development of Cuban-made vaccines, as well as in the evaluation of their immunogenicity, the article noted.

Three vaccines: Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala; as well as two candidates: Mambisa and Soberana 01, in addition to all children over two years of age immunized against the disease, place Cuba in an advanced position worldwide, the text highlighted.

Likewise, immunology became a decisive factor in the creation of diagnostic kits based on immunological principles, and in the treatment of the infection through the immunomodulation of the immune response with products such as Biomodulin T.

The development of immunology shows favorable results in the implementation of the National Program of Integral Attention to Immunodeficiencies, according to Minsap.

From immunology and its practical application in Cuban biotechnology, treatments for other types of cancer, such as lung cancer, head and neck carcinoma, gliomas, have been approached with its own vaccines and monoclonal antibodies registered Cuba and in some other nations.
