Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reiterated this Thursday that solidarity is vital in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, a principle that the country defends with 22 medical brigades supporting 21 countries.

On Twitter, the Cuban foreign minister highlighted the departure to Cape Verde of a new group of Cuban healthcare professionals belonging to the International Henry Reeve Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics.

The brigade is made up of five physicians, ten nurses and five Hygiene and Epidemiology experts, all with over ten years of professional experience including missions abroad, according to the Cubacoopera website.

In the act of flagging and bidding farewell, held yesterday at the Central Unit for Medical Cooperation (UCCM), Dr. Jose Antonio Sanchez, head of the brigade, said that these men and women are committed to complying with the mission and returning home healthy.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jorge Juan Delgado, director of the UCCM, referred that in that African nation the new team of Cuban healthcare professionals will support the Cuban medical brigade that is already there, to fight along with the Cape Verdeans against the pandemic.

Until March, the country had a total of 29,005 collaborators abroad, and of these in Cape Verde there are 79, details Cubacoopera website.

In general, due to the health emergency generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, some twenty brigades of the Henry Reeve Contingent, specialized in disaster and epidemic situations, made up of almost 2,000 professionals, have been mobilized.

So far, Cape Verde has reported 68 Covid-19 cases, according to the Minister of Health and Social Solidarity, Arlindo do Rosario.

The minister told local media that conditions have been structured to accommodate the Cuban healthcare team taking into account their needs.
