The celebrations on the 205th anniversary of the iconic Floridita bar-restaurant in Havana awarded bartenders at a cocktail competition, according to a report from organizers.

Bartender Ana Laura Perez, from Havana’s La Tropical recreational center, was the queen by winning first place in the King of the Junior Daiquiri contest, held on Thursday at the Floridita, in Old Havana.

The contest was part of celebrations organized by Empresa Extrahotelera Palmares, which runs this establishment, to celebrate the 205th anniversary of the bar-restaurant.

According to the jury, made up of members of the Cuban Bartenders Association (ACC), the award to the Most Technical Competitor went to Andres Alejandro Lorenzo, and the Daiquiri cocktail for the Best Flavor went to Raul Revilla.

The main winner told reporters that her Tropical Daiquiri cocktail is made up of mango and passion fruit, in fruit and syrup, in two parts, one with natural lemon and the other with dehydrated lemon.

Floridita Director Orlando Blanco said that he was proud to celebrate the establishment’s 205th anniversary, especially with its leading drink, the Floridita Daiquiri, essentially composed of clear Cuban rum and crushed ice, something very refreshing for the tropics.

When, in 1817, a French passerby first crossed the doors of this business, located on the corner of Obispo and Monserrate streets, he never imagined that he was participating in the foundation of a mythical place, which would become part of the select discourse that describes Cuba’s national identity.
