The young Daily Cooper said she feels ready to achieve in 800m the Olympic mark required to be in Paris-2024, after being very close in the Memorial Fortun of athletics, based in her native Camagüey.
Runner-up in the Pan American 1500 in Santiago-2023, Cooper, running practically alone, clocked 2.00.45 minutes, a little more than a second away from the 1.59.30 required to be in Paris-2024.
With this record, she entered Cuba's top ten in the double oval lap (ninth) and was included among the 25 best in the world in the current season, in an event that will give 48 Olympic places.
The 22-year-old was optimistic about the future in statements to Radio Habana Cuba.
Cuba has a long and rich history in the 800 meters flat (m and f), with illustrious figures such as Ana Fidelia Quiros, two-time Olympic champion Alberto Juantorena, Zulia Calatayud, Norberto Tellez and Yeya Penton, among others.
La Cooper returns to the track this Friday in the Fortún Memorial, in the 4x400 relay for women.
