Cubans living in several European countries will hold a virtual meeting in October to support the island, amid an escalation of hostility from the United States, organizers of the forum announced today.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, the president of the Association of Cuban Residents in Germany, José Conde, specified that the event will be launched on October 10, to be held on October 24 with the participation of organizations and people scattered throughout the old continent.

We chose this historic homeland date for the launching because we do not want it to be overlooked and because it will be a cry of independence from Cubans in Europe to reject counterrevolutionaries and those who only use social networks to attack Cuba, he explained by telephone.

According to Conde, the virtual meeting on October 24 will be a patriotic-cultural evening, the characteristics of which are still under discussion.

The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the largest of the Antilles for six decades and its worsening by the current administration, the work of Cuban resident associations support the petition to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve medical brigades, stands out on the agenda.

Regarding the blockade, Conde pointed out that the strengthening of it at times when the island and the world are facing the Covid-19 pandemic deserves no other qualification than genocide.

It is a genocide against Cuba and against any country to which they do something like that in the middle of a pandemic, ignoring the calls of Pope Francis, the UN and the international community not to apply these policies, he stressed.

According to the president of the Association of Cuban Residents in Germany, the systematic attempts to suffocate the Caribbean country will fail, as they did before.

Conde highlighted the opportunity offered by next month's virtual meeting for everyone to participate, 'since not everyone can pay for a ticket or a hotel to attend physical meetings.'

Other associations of Cubans residing in European nations confirmed to Prensa Latina their participation in the forum and their commitment to the battle on social networks to repudiate lies and manipulation.
