The members of the "A Road of Love" initiative on Sunday marched from this Italian city to the neighboring town of Ceselli to start from there, in four stages, the more-than-100-kilometer walk to Rome.

Cuban-American Professor Carlos Lazo, founder and coordinator of the “Bridges of Love” solidarity project, heads the group of marchers who will follow the footsteps of St. Francis, in an action aimed at raising awareness against the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and in favor of peace in the Americas and the rest of the world.

The first section of the route covers 18 kilometers, from Ceselli to Arrone, a municipality of about 2,600 inhabitants in Terni province, still in the Umbria region.

The six-day event is sponsored by the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba, the Bridges of Love project, the Coordinating Committee of Cuban Residents in Italy, the AsiCuba Umbria group, the San Egidio Christian community, the Sano, Justo y Solidario (Healthy, Fair and Helpful) network and the Student Missionary League.

The Citadel of Assisi, a multifunctional complex and home to the Civitate Christiana Association, hosted the opening public assembly that will culminate on December 23 with a meeting at the St. Francis Saverio del Caravita oratory.
